Seven Most Important Packing Tips
The most common mistakes in packing aren’t always what you take, but how you take it. There is a lot to consider…here are All-Canada’s most important Packing for Canada tips:
1) Group Pack – While packing your vehicle practice group packing. Consolidate loose items into larger containers. Example: everyone doesn’t need their own rod tube, group them together or for houskeeping trips: split up the food items such as vegetable oil, cereal, season salt, ect.
2) Use large containers – Rubbermaid makes excellent large storage containers (some with wheels) to further consolidate your gear. It is easier to carry one container than 10 paper bags. Be careful on fly-ins...talk to the air-service about the maximum container size for their planes.
3) One trip – The rule of thumb for American Plan trips – set a goal to only take what you can carry in one trip. If you are over…take another look and see what might be left behind.
4) Bigger is better – rather than separate bags holding your clothes and personal items, buy one LARGE duffle bag. These jumbo bags can be very inexpensive. Again, consult with air service (when flying in) about maximum bag size.
5) Watch your weight – Fly-ins lodges take special care in packing and each flying service has weight requirements. Plan as a group, everyone doesn’t need to bring a net, insect repellent ECT.
6) Must Have – There are certain items you can’t leave without. Passport, sunscreen, polarized sunglasses, lip balm with SPF, life preserver and a first aid kit are a MUST. Make sure everyone in your group is prepared..
7) Have fun –Take things that make your trip enjoyable for you, regardless of what your friends and family think. Be it: books, GPS, cast iron dutch oven, an extra case of beer. You’re on vacation, HAVE FUN! |
